SmartMan CPR Skills Review

SmartMan's revolutionary real time feed back is more than just CPR practice. It is an experience in modifying your performance behavior so that a victim can receive the maximum benefit from your efforts. You can develop confidence by KNOWING how to perform skills.

Guidelines 2010 poses a couple of challenges for people trained on previous guidelines.

Skills Validated

  Compressions

  Quick Review Points

Chest compressions form the corner stone for CPR. In current practice there are 2 variations. 30:2 is the current recommended practice and several places are concentrating on continuous compressions. you will find more detail on the current emphasis on compressions here.

Maximize the time on the chest and the quality of compressions. Concentrate on going DEEPER and performing FASTER than in previous guidelines. Concentrate on full release of the chest

  • For 30:2 CPR
  • For Continuous Compressions

  Ventilations

SmartMan's feedback is revolutionizing how well ventilations are performed. You can practice performing ventilations for rescue breathing, for the breaths in 30:2 CPR or practice performing CPR with an Advanced Airway. They all require require a different execution.

New Guidelines focus on slower inspiring and creating less pressure in the thorax. SmartMan gives you special activities for the New Guidelines.

Correct inspiration and rate, Volume of Inspiration, Duration of Inspiration, Release of BVM, Rate between Inspirations

  • In 30:2 CPR
  • In Rescue Breathing

  1 Person CPR

Performing both compressions and ventilations by yourself requires agility and practice. You need to properly position both yourself and the BVM to maximize efficiency. more >>>

Perform compression and ventilation skills accurately. Also practice minimizing the time when switching from compressions to ventilations and back. Careful placement of the placement of the BVM, timing on the switch, and greater emphasis on the compressions.

  2 Person CPR

This requires correct performance of both compressions and ventilations and increases the complexity because the actions need to be coordination with the skills performance of a partner.

Switching over from compressions to ventilations is a crucial time and needs to be practiced. more >>>

Perform compression and ventilation skills accurately. Also practice minimizing the time when switching partners performing compressions or ventilations. Count clearly out loud to time the change. Also change around count 25 or so on the cycle. Place greater emphasis on minimizing interruption to the compressions.

  Advanced Airway (Intubation)

No matter which intubation device you use, it is important to quickly place the device so there is no leakage and it provides effective air to the victim. You can practice these Intubation skills on Airway SmartMan.

Practice with a range of Intubation devices which require rapid and accurate placement of the device.

  Advanced Airway CPR

Besides requiring quick and accurate placement of the intubation device (see above), Advanced Airway CPR requires accurate timing of the ventilation with the release of the chest compression.

This is a difficult skill requires that requires practice. It is almost impossible to perform correctly without feedback, correction and practice.

Proper Advanced Air technique gives the victim the advantage of uninterrupted compressions and ventilations.

  • Correct placement of the intubation device
  • Correct performance in rate, depth and release of chest for chest compressions
  • Correct continuing of rate, depth and release of chest as ventilation with an advanced is performed.
  • Correct time of beginning of inspiration with the release of the chest during compression
  • Correct inspiration volume which accurately accounts for the higher level of inflation due to the negative pressure created inside of the lung on release of the chest
  • Correct inspiration time (one third of a second to be matched with release of the chest)
