Guidelines 2010

"Emphasis on High-Quality CPR" AHA 2010 Guidelines summary.

The new guidelines reinforce the importance of CPR. They stress pushing deeper and performing faster than most people currently do. They stress the importance of getting onto the chest as quickly as possible and they introduce some new information on how to determine whether chest compressions are being performed as well as possible.

SmartMan Highlights of Changes
SmartMan

General Considerations

  • Greater attention to be paid to the importance of CPR
  • A – B – C has changed to C – A – B (Compressions are emphasized and performed first)
  • Stresses that Better CPR leads to increases in survival
  • Emphasis on duty cycle

For Compressions

  • Compression Depth at least 2 inches (5 cm)
  • Rate of at least 100 per minute. No upper limit.
  • Emphasis on the importance of Full Chest Recoil
  • Emphasis on Total Time on the chest
  • With an Advanced Airway in place, use continuous chest compressions

For Ventilations

  • Emphasis on performing ventilations correctly
  • Specific attention to avoiding excessive ventilation
  • Stress the importance of slowing inspirations to 1 second
  • Emphasis on volume of inspiration of only 500 – 600ml of air

Ambu SmartMan has implemented the New 2010 guidelines while still allowing users to train to the 2005 guidelines. This allows you to provide a smooth transition for he Instructors and Students.

The SmartMan Real Time Feedback system helps you quickly improve the quality of CPR being performed. Airway SmartMan extends these skills to Advanced Airway Training and includes intubation effectiveness.

SmartMan Special SmartMan Activities
       Designed to improve skills
SmartMan

SmartMan has produced a series of special activities to help people transition to the new skills required under to new guidelines.

New For Compressions. These are now deeper, but to maintain best practice you must not 'hit the bottom'. SmartMan detects and reports on this. more >>>

Duty Cycle Measurement Introduced. This relates to the quality of the compressions being performed and is related to coronary pressure. SmartMan introduces this score as well. more >>>

New for BVM Use. Ventilations need to be slowed down so that air goes into the lungs. SmartMan introduces a new activity where you can see how fast the air is going into the lung and how long you are squeezing the BVM. more >>>

Improved Ventilations. Besides the above, SmartMan has introduced a system to show you whether you are holding the BVM or releasing it to allow proper exhalation. more >>>
